the pursuit of novel carbon allotropes has long continued in synthetic chemistry and materials science, and graphene has been the most well-investigated carbon nanostructure in the past decade. however, an analogous carbon pentaheptite (五七烯) with equal numbers of pentagons and heptagons has not yet been synthesized due to the challenges in the design and synthesis of nonhexagon motifs along two dimensions. in this talk, i will present our efforts in synthesizing pentaheptite nanostructures. first, i will introduce the bottom-up organic synthesis of graphene molecules with non-alternant topologies, e.g. seven-five-seven-membered rings (7-5-7) and four continuous heptagons. in contrast to the successes achieved with varied ngs with non-alternant topologies, we also try to the development of facile and effective methods to synthesize lovely molecules bearing n-doped nonhexagons, including pentagon-heptagon pairs and pentagon-octagon pairs. second, toward the synthesis of pentaheptite nanostructures will be introduced from our perspective.
个人简介 :
prof. liu is the doctoral supervisor at the department of chemistry in the university of hong kong. his current scientific interests include bottom-up organic synthesis of topological nanocarbons and their applications in organic electronics. specific research topics include nanocarbons with nonalternant topologies, atomically precise synthesis of 3d and ordered molecular nanocarbons, and supramolecular chemistry. he has published more than 85 publications (h-index: 34) in high-profile international journals. he has been awarded several prizes since joining hku, such as asian core program lectureship award (2023); outstanding young researcher award (hku, 2023); small rising star (wiley-vch, 2022); chemcomm emerging investigator (rsc, 2022); nsfc excellent young scientists award (2021); rgc early career award (2020); iupac international award for young chemists - honorable mention award (2017), etc.
